For the past 81 days I have been doing a #Grateful100 on Instagram. Everything going on in my life (crohns, work, classes and everyday happenings) spurred me to start finding one thing I am grateful for every day.
This Hanukkah, the festival of lights, as I light the candles I think about how grateful I am. As a kid, having an eight night holiday was amazing because eight days of presents. What could be bad? As I’ve gotten older there are less presents and I acknowledge the time spent with family. It is less about the gifts and more about appreciating what the holiday does: bring people together. This year my family spent the first night together and it was a great feeling. There is nothing better than watching little kids’ eyes light up as they open their gifts.
As I move through this week and light my hanukkiah every night, with or without the family around me, I keep thinking about how many wonderful things have happened the past few weeks and how much more I have to look forward to as we move into 2017 and the last 4 nights of Hanukkah.
